bio I have been making self-portrait photographs since I was a teenager. Since 2001, I have been photographing myself as different male and female characters observing undefined disasters looming beyond the camera lens. My "Disaster Series" is inspired, in part, by news photographs of recent catastrophes. In 2006, I began work on a new series of self-portrait photographs as men called "The History of Moustaches." I am influenced by feminist cultural criticism and writing on gender, photographers like Cindy Sherman and Nikki S. Lee, and fashion. I was an artistic fellow at A.I.R. Gallery in Chelsea, New York City, from 2005-2006. A.I.R. Gallery is the oldest gallery in the United States devoted to the work of women artists. I belong to the Department of Craft, a collective of New York City artists and craftspeople. I am one half of the Henry-Darger tribute band The Vivian Girls Experience with the artist Justin Duerr. I am a vegan and a volunteer for animal-related causes. In the daytime, I work as a government lawyer under the alias Lori Barrett. Read ArtLAB's interview with Enid Crow here.
